Meredith Atwood is a part of the Litigation Group at Andersen, Tate & Carr. Ms. Atwood’s practice areas include civil and real estate litigation, where she represents individuals and businesses in trial and appellate matters.

Ms. Atwood earned her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Georgia in 2005, where she served as an articles editor on the Journal of Intellectual Property Law. Ms. Atwood received her Bachelor of Arts in English, cum laude, in 2001 from the University of Georgia. She was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa honor society, and was a member of Phi Alpha Delta international law society.

Admitted to the practice of law in the State of Georgia in 2005, Ms. Atwood is licensed to practice before the Supreme Court of Georgia, the Georgia Court of Appeals and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. She has argued before the Georgia Court of Appeals. Ms. Atwood has experience in all facets of litigation, including civil, domestic and criminal law. She also has experience with residential real estate closings and default services for clients in the mortgage banking industry. For the past four years, she has focused her practice on real estate litigation and appeals, with three reported cases in the Court of Appeals pertaining to dispossessory actions: Cronin v. Homesales, Inc., 296 Ga.App. 293; 674 S.E.2d 35 (2009); Miley v. Thornburg Mortg. Home Loans, Inc., 294 Ga.App. 140, 668 S.E.2d 560 (2008); and Egana v. HSBC Mortgage Corporation, 294 Ga. App. 456; 669 S.E.2d 159 (2008).

Prior to moving to the metro Atlanta area in 2007, Ms. Atwood practiced law in the historic town of Washington, Georgia. She also served as a Toombs Judicial Circuit public defender conflict attorney. In addition, she was a public defender for the Municipal Court in the City of Washington, secretary/treasurer for the Toombs Circuit Bar Association, and a board member for the Washington Chamber of Commerce.

Ms. Atwood was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia, where she competed nationally and internationally in Olympic-style weightlifting with Team Savannah. She has recently taken up the sport of triathlon, finishing her first half-Ironman (1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, and half-marathon) in October of 2011.

Ms. Atwood lives in Lawrenceville with her husband, James, and their two children.
