Contempt of court refers to acts of willful disobedience, the disregarding of a court order, misconduct during a presence in court, or any action that disrespects the court or interferes with court proceedings. Contempt of court may be punished by fine, imprisonment, or both.
What happens if I'm held in contempt of court?
As stated above, contempt of court is punishable by imprisonment, usually brief, as well as fines or sanctions. In some cases, contempt of court may be punished by both.
