M.J. Blakely, Jr. is part of the Litigation Group at Andersen, Tate & Carr. He is a trial lawyer practicing in the areas of civil litigation and criminal defense.
Mr. Blakelys civil practice is focused in the area of Personal Injury. He represents individuals and families physically harmed by the wrongful conduct and negligence of others. His personal injury practice includes Catastrophic Personal Injury, Wrongful Death, Premises Liability, Products Liability, and Motor Vehicle Accidents. He has tried multiple cases to verdict, and served as co-counsel in a trial yielding a multimillion dollar verdict for the client. Mr. Blakely also puts his experience as a courtroom advocate to work defending propane gas companies.
Mr. Blakely's Criminal Defense practice includes handling cases involving allegations of drug trafficking and possession, DUI, armed robbery, animal cruelty, fraud, terroristic threats, and serious traffic violations.
Mr. Blakely attended Oxford College and Emory College of Emory University where he worked to obtain his Bachelor of Arts in 2002. While at Emory, he majored in political science and served as the Chaplain for the Mu Alpha Chapter of his fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Mr. Blakely earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Georgia School of Law in 2006. While in law school, Mr. Blakely was a member of the Mock Trial Board and Mock Trial Team. He received the Weinberg, Wheeler, Hudgins, Gunn and Dial Award for Outstanding Mock Trial Advocate. He served as a research assistant for Dean Rebecca H. White in the area of Employment Discrimination, and was a Joseph Henry Lumpkin Inn of Court Pupil, the Vice-President of the Black Law Student's Association, and a Dean's Ambassador.
Mr. Blakely was admitted to the practice of law in the State of Georgia in 2006, and is licensed to practice in all Georgia courts, as well as the United States District Court for the Northern and Middle Districts of Georgia.
Mr. Blakely is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the Gwinnett County Bar Association, the Gwinnett County Minority Bar Association, the Propane Gas Defense Association, the Georgia Trial Lawyer's Association, and the American Association for Justice. He is also a member of the Lawrenceville Rotary Club, the Gwinnett Unity Group, the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce, Young Professionals Division, and the University of Georgia Alumni Association.
Mr. Blakely was raised in Fayette County, Georgia. He and his wife, Jennifer and their black Labrador retrievers, live in Tucker, Georgia.
